7 Priority Rhythms in 2025

As we step into 2025, many people set goals and resolutions. However, lasting transformation often doesn’t come from lofty goals alone but from intentional rhythms. Rhythms create consistency in our lives — guiding our habits, shaping our priorities, and ultimately allowing us to focus on what matters most. If setting new years resolutions works for you (past January 31st), keep rocking what you’ve got, otherwise, make it your resolution to ditch new years resolutions for rhythms!

Unlike resolutions, rhythms aren’t about perfection — they’re about creating a sustainable cadence that aligns our behaviors and actions with our values. When we anchor our daily, weekly, and monthly routines to meaningful rhythms, we build a life that reflects our deepest intentions, ultimately helping us become the people God has called us to be.

As I have spent time reflecting on 2024 and looking ahead to 2025, I have identified some core goals and desires that involve writing, family, marriage, and health. I have also worked to identify rhythms that will help me be the type of person who accomplishes and achieves those ambitions.

Here are the rhythms I’m prioritizing in 2025 to stay grounded, grow in faith, and steward my time well:

1. BIBLE BEFORE PHONE (Daily)

The way we start our day sets the tone for everything else. By choosing to read scripture before reaching for my phone, I ensure my mind is centered on truth before distractions and noise flood in. A “sub-rhythm” that really helps me with this one is to keep my phone on the other side of the room at bedtime. If you’re an iPhone user, you can set up Screen Time to schedule apps to not be available until certain times. Try it!

2. PACK A LUNCH (DAILY)

Packing lunch daily may seem small, but it’s a way of practicing stewardship—of time, health, and finances. This habit helps me avoid rushed, unhealthy choices and ensures I nourish my body intentionally. This is a new rhythm that stems from a weakness. In my younger years, neglecting to pack a lunch meant I would eat out more. Now, it means I just skip lunch. I want to be more intentional about what I eat and this rhythm is one of those small habits that makes a big difference.

3. 10-MINUTE STRETCH (DAILY)

In my younger years, I would often remind my friends, “Superheroes don’t stretch.” We would all laugh as I gingerly rounded first base after once again tweaking my hamstring or quad. I’m not laughing anymore because it doesn’t take a sprint around the bases for me to feel my age. Stretching daily is a simple rhythm that reminds me to care for my physical health and increase my flexibility and general health. It’s a slow rhythm that I am able to combine with other key habits; such as prayer and gratitude.

4. MEMORIZE A NEW SCRIPTURE (WEEKLY)

This is a new intentional rhythm this year. Committing scripture to memory is like planting seeds that bear fruit throughout life’s challenges. The goal of this rhythm is to keep God’s word close to my heart, equipping me as a pastor and follower of Jesus to make godly decisions and pray more thoughtfully. I have scheduled out several verses and at the beginning of each week, I write that verse out in various places I will see it. The goal is to have 52+ verses memorized by the end of the year.

5. SUNDAY PLANNING & REVIEW (WEEKLY)

Planning my week ahead ensures that I’m intentional rather than reactive. This rhythm helps me stay focused on key priorities and avoid becoming overwhelmed. Whether it’s blocking time for work or scheduling moments of rest, this simple habit makes a big difference. My rhythm is to sit down for 15 minutes every Sunday to review my calendar, set appointments, plan key tasks, schedule social media posts, plan blog content, and create space for key friendships and relationships.

6. WRITE AND PUBLISH SOMETHING (WEEKLY)

Writing is a way to process, create, and share. Committing to writing and publishing weekly keeps me disciplined in my creativity and consistent in sharing meaningful content with others. Publishing weekly pushes me out of my comfort zone. Working on completing my book is a big deal in this season, however, I want the habit of writing to be a priority regardless of whether or not there is a hard project attached. I love writing and I desire writing to be a key part of my life moving forward. Here’s the truth: Writers write.

7. MARRIAGE MEETING (MONTHLY)

This is something Taylor and I have done at different times in our marriage, but this year, we have identified it as a priority rhythm. In the past, a core rhythm has been “Date Nights,” however, we discovered that the reason we struggled to stay consistent with date nights was simply poor planning. The goal of this meeting is to reflect on the past month, plan meals, review finances, discuss our calendar, schedule dates, ensure we’re unified in our vision. Investing in our marriage requires intentional communication and alignment.

Over the last few years, I have made an intentional effort to live according to a rhythm of life. That rhythm consists of other established rhythms; such as weekly small group gatherings, conversations with close friends, dinner at the table, etc. Those rhythms continue to build a strong cadence in my life that centers me spiritually, relationally, and emotionally.

These rhythms help me build a life of purpose, presence, and intentionality. What rhythms can you adopt this year to shape the life you want to live? The start of the year is a great time to reflect and reset. Let’s embrace rhythms that cultivate lasting growth in 2025.
